On the 19th November 2003 the year children visited Croxteth hall, and went back in time! All the children had to apply for a job at the hall, whether that be a kitchen maid, a footman, a woodboy or a house maid, each child had to write a letter of application to Lord Sefton before they arrived. On arriving at the hall with their CV, they were allocated their jobs and introduced to their "leader" who would train them in the skills of their particular job. Even teachers were expected to join in (and be told off when necessary!) The day ended with a big Christmas party hosted by Lord and Lady Sefton in the great hall, accompanied by some children who were their official guests. Each group presented the Lord and Lady with a present and mince pies and truffles were followed by traditional Victorian games. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all, but after a highly disciplined day I think the children would have preferred to live in the present - although shooting and beating for pheasants was cool! |
