RE
AIMS:
RE contributes dynamically to children and young people's education in schools by provoking challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human.
‘All children need to acquire core knowledge and understanding of the beliefs and practices of the religions and worldviews which not only shape their history and culture but which guide their own development. The modern world needs young people who are sufficiently confident in their own beliefs and values that they can respect the religious and cultural differences of others, and contribute to a cohesive and compassionate society.’ DFE 2013
Strong Foundations: The bedrock of the national curriculum is our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which has carefully prepared children for the learning journey ahead. Within a nurturing and play-based EYFS environment, children have learned basic and transferable skills; absorbed relevant knowledge and grown in maturity, as well as developing a thirst for learning. Follow the link or see below for details of your child's learning at this important stage and how it has prepared them for the learning journey ahead.
Our Curriculum
Opening Worlds
At Hatton Hill, we know that our children learn best when learning is carefully sequenced and allows children to make connections between subjects. We also know the importance of quality texts and images which extend children's knowledge and vocabulary so expanding their view of the world. For this reason, we have adopted Opening Worlds. This knowledge-rich humanities programme for teaching history, geography and religion, places a high emphasis on all we hold important. The story-telling approach engages children whilst taking them on a carefully planned and sequenced learning journey with global and cultural breadth, embracing wide diversity across ethnicity, gender, region and community. Prepare to be amazed by what your children will learn and know!
Currently, Years 2 (in the summer term) to Year 5 complete the Opening Worlds humanities curriculum. This will be extended to Year 6 in 2026-27.
