Nursery Barn Owl Visit

Class: Reception Year: 2021 - 2022

On Monday 15th November, Nursery were lucky to have Ollie the barn owl come to visit us. Ollie's handler Mike explained to us about keeping safe around an owl and why he had a special glove on and why Ollie had effectively 'a collar and lead' around his legs. We saw Ollie's sharp beak and claws. He spread his wings and showed us how he flies. We learned that Ollie's beautiful feathers are not waterproof so he won't go out in the rain hunting for food. Ollie showed us that he doesn't 'too-whit-too-woo' like the tawny owls in our story, Owl Babies, but in fact makes a hissing sound. Ollie showed us what he likes to eat for breakfast, but was too shy to show us how he eats it today. Thank you so much to Mike and Ollie for coming to see us, you really brought the children's learning to life.
