Achievement through Happy Learning

Year 2 Spring

Class: Year 2 Year: 2021 - 2022

This term in English we have loved reading the story of the Bog Baby and also Wanted: The Perfect Pet by Fiona Robertson. We have improved our writing by using expanded noun phrases in character descriptions and writing questions in our information books about insects.

In March we had lots of fun dressing up for World Book Day as our favourite characters. We enjoyed seeing all the children in costume in our Key Stage 1 assembly as we discussed different genres of books. Then it was time to support Comic Relief so we put on an item of red clothing, wore our noses and made donations for charity.

What a busy month March was! We also enjoyed learning about microbes and germs during science week as we investigated the length of a sneeze and how far germs can travel. Our main science topic was animals and their habitats, classifying them and looking at key features of each animal group. We explored mini-beasts and micro-habitats around our school.

In our design and technology lessons we have had fun creating a moving picture to illustrate the Billy Goats Gruff traditional tale. We chose lever, wheel and slider mechanisms to make the moving part. In art we explored patterns and camouflage in animals and their natural environment. We then used our ideas to make insect camouflage pictures.

In religious education we continued learning about Islam and then looked at belonging to different faith groups. We explored how different faiths welcome babies and celebrate weddings.

We developed our map makng skills when exploring our school environment and the layout of the school in geography.

In P.E. we have been devising and performing a sequence of movements icluding travel and balance, and have improved our stamina by jogging round the track.
