Achievement through Happy Learning

Art & Design

Year 1 art introduces young learners to basic techniques and creative expression across different medium. Children explore colour theory, learn mark-making, and are inspired by the work of famous historical and contemporary artists to create their own unique masterpieces.

Autumn

Children will create silhouette city scapes depicting the Great Fire of London. It would be fantastic if children could take a walk in the early evening to look at the shapes of buildings against the sunset.

Spring

Children will explore pattern. Look around your house for examples of pattern in design, for example on bedding, wallpaper and clothing.

Summer

Children will explore the work of the impressionists and create their own interpretation of 'Sunflowers'. Room 10 in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, displays landscapes and scenes of daily life from artists such as Monet, Degas and Cezanne, which may inspire you. It is free to visit!

Our Intent and Impact (I&I) sheets below list the questions we want children to be able to answer once they have completed their learning. They also highlight key vocabulary which children must learn.
