Achievement through Happy Learning

A Visit to Year 4

Class: Year 4 Year: 2021 - 2022

One of the best parts of my job is visiting classes and watching children learn. When I visited J3 and J4, they were thinking about whether the kapok tree in Lynne Cherry' story 'The Great Kapok Tree' should be chopped down. The natural reaction to this is 'no' as we know how important the rainforests are, but the children were trying to create a balanced argument by looking at different points of view. The children were reminded that one of our British Values is democracy; having a respectful discussion which puts forward different points of view is part of democratic society. The children were really good at considering reasons for and against cutting down the tree. Well done, Year 4. I was very impressed.
