Achievement through Happy Learning

Autumn 2 in Year 6

Class: Year 6 Year: 2021 - 2022

Year 6 have continued to work amazingly hard during the second half of the autumn term and have been inspired by their topic areas.

The children have been wrote fantastic information texts based on the fictional planet of 'Pandora' from the film, Avatar. Clips from the film which depict the animals and plantlife were used as inspriation for their writing. Using langauge drawn from across the curriculum, Year 6 created reports which make fiction seem like fact. They are certainly mature and avid writers.

The Lady of Shalott was also studied this half-term. Again, the children were inspired by this narrative poem and have been keen to learn more about the Arthurian legend.

In geography, children have learnt about flooding and have a good awareness of the causes and impact. RE gave the opportunity for mature debate as the children considered their key questions: What can be done to reduce racism? Can religion help? Further consideration of challenging issues were addressed during history as the children learnt more about our home city of Liverpool and its role in the transatlantic slave trade. Throughout, the children have shown maturity and sensitivity. Art was tricky as we tried to create traditional dream-catchers - we are so proud of them!

Although they have worked hard right to the end of term, time has been found to make our annual Christmas cards and calendars. We also welcomed the return of the special Year 6 Christmas party which takes place after school and included hotdogs, chips and party games.

Have a happy Christmas everyone.
