Day at the Museum
Lesson: History
Class: Year 3 Year: 2026 - 2027
Year 3 had a fabulous day at Liverpool World Museum.
The children enjoyed visiting the prehistoric exhibition, where we saw a selection of bones and fossils, some wonderful cave paintings and some very old animals!
Then, onto our main event - The Journey to the Afterlife workshop.
The children had the opportunity to experience a range of historical artefacts, such as the ancient Egyptian Shabti dolls. The Ancient Egyptians believed that if you were well behaved during your mortal life, the Shabti dolls would become your very own magical workers in the afterlife, so you would never have to do any chores ever again. I think we would all love a Shabti doll.
After that, we discovered more facts about the Egyptians' journey to the afterlife, including the process of mummification, whereby organs were removed in a variety of unusual, and gruesome, ways before being stored in canopic jars and the body was wrapped in linen bandages.
After lunch, we were able to travel along the River Nile to ancient Egypt and find out lots of interesting facts on the Egyptian trail, before finally visiting the Mummy Room to see an actual mummy.
