Malham Residential

Lesson: PSHE and citizenship

Class: Year 6 Year: 2025 - 2026

Year 6 had a fabulous hiking residential trip to beautiful Yorkshire, staying in the Malham YHA. We began with a stunning hike along the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, which although not completed in full due to the sweltering weather, was still beautiful under the canopy of trees with a picnic next to the river. The following day, we completed two circular walks around Malham, climbing to the top of the cove and stopping to admire Gordale Scar and Janet’s Floss. In the evening, children enjoyed fire lighting and in our final day we revelled in a competitive orienteering course and scavenger hunt (the winners of both remain disputed)!

The behaviour of the Year 6 children was exemplary.  We received a large number of compliments about the children's good manners and behaviour from members of the public and staff at the hostel. The children also showed good citizenship by encouraging hikers completing the Mighty Hike in aid of Macmillan. Our children clapped and cheered them on bringing tears to the eyes of some.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Bishop, Mrs King and Miss Privilege for giving up their weekend to make this experience possible as well as the 24/7 TLC they provided for our children. It is easy to take for granted the great generosity of spirit shown by Hatton Hill staff. We appreciate the many kind comments we received from parents.
