Mere Sands Adventure
Lesson: Science
Class: Year 5 Year: 2025 - 2026
Year 5 enjoyed a fun trip, when they visited Mere Sands Woods. Nestled amongst the peaceful agricultural landscape of Rufford, Mere Sands Wood is a true wildlife haven. With woods, lakes, meadows and heath meeting in one magical nature reserve the children enjoyed a great day out exploring flora and fauna. They were able to hunt for minibeasts, identify different species of trees using leaf charts and creativity build “dens” using resources gathered from the natural environment. This year, the children found a number of frogs and newts, which caused an outcry of joy and amazement. They were even taught how to start a camp fire using flint, which proved tricky, but was achieved by everyone. A great day in the wet and windy wilderness was had by all.
