Achievement through Happy Learning

Autumn in Year 5

Class: Year 5 Year: 2021 - 2022

During the Autumn term, children have demonstrated a willingness to learn and showed great interest in our topics.

In English, History and Art we have learnt about the Mayan civilisation through many different mediums. We have completed this through a variety of different ways, which the children fully emersed themselves in. We created our very own Mayan mask designs using a mixed media approach.

In English, we began learning about the Mayan origin story, before taking a trip into space with Apollo 13. This allowed the children to write in a variety of different genres - even becoming journalists to write their own newspaper articles.

Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed Hatton Hill's drive to encourage fitness and wellbeing. As a year group, we have been able to strengthen our swimming abilities at Maghull Leisure Centre. In addition, we have played basketball to improve coordination and teamwork, The children were very enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed these sports.

In Science, we have an engaging topic, which sparked the children's imagination - Space. After watching Apollo 13, the children had a desire to learn more about the world above us. We discussed how the solar system operates and how the Earth moves within the system. We have looked at the different phases of the moon, and how they change on a daily basis.
